Do men and women store fat differently?

Yes, and not only do women store fat differently than men, they also burn it differently. First of all women, you’re at an advantage in some regards. You tend to store your fat in your lower body which is better in terms of your health. It happens naturally as a fat storage site for pregnancy when women become of age to have children. Visceral or stomach fat which is more common in men puts men at a much higher risk of heart disease and insulin resistance. Guys, I wish I had an excuse for our visceral fat storage too, but we just keep it for ourselves.

Women tend to rely on fat much more than men for their energy source during exercise. They also burn much less fat than men at rest. This means that for women to lose fat, exercise is a must!

Research shows that the best way for women to lose fat is through anaerobic training. Now this doesn’t mean that if you’re doing purely aerobic training that you’re way off track, it just means that if you seriously want to lose some weight you need to add in a strength training component to your exercise routine.  Strength training involving full body and multi-joint exercises combined with high intensity interval aerobic work will be your best formula for shedding those unwanted extra fat cells.
